Description

Leopold Hentomielinen was born in spring when the birds started singing their songs again after the long winter, and when the color green grew slowly stronger all around. A child of spring, a child of life. The town of Neoma was close to their duke and duchess, and the birthday of the boy grew to be a celebrated day for all of the town. So when little Leo turned six, an important age since that is when children start to make their own path, he received many gifts from the towns people. Among them was a little basket, with a note: "For the future duke of Neoma". Inside the basket there were two little Kukuri pups, rare of color, one pearly white and one raven black. A gift of great value and responsibility.

The parents of Leopold went through his gifts, before giving them to the boy. When they got to the basket, a smile blossommed in both of their faces.
"They are lovely, aren't they, William?"
"Yes, what a wonderful present. And look, doesn't that look like a flower-de-luce, on the neck of the white one? It couldn't be more suitable pet for a great man."
"I know, dear...", the duchess frowned a bit, suddenly worried, "But what about the black one?"
The duke, a deeply superstitious man took a long look at the pup, black as night. It had some white markings, true, but they seemed like bad omens: a star on its forehead, and the tiny dots on its shoulder looked very much like the mark of the devil. The duke didn't want to turn down gifts from the people, but this horned creature actually made his skin crawl. As he looked at it, it opened its eye, just for a split second, and the eye was blood red.
